Setting up home recording system (on a budget)?

home budget software

I’ve got the software, the microphones, cables, and so forth, but the last step I need is to find a way to hook up multiple microphones into my laptop. It’s difficult for me to just get another sound card because I am using a laptop, so what other alternative ways could I hook up the microphones to the computer? Currently, I just convert the microphone to a 1/8th and fit it into the headphone slot in the laptop, but I understand I lose quite a bit of quality that way as well. What better methods are there for under $200, and hopefully would allow me to record from up to at least 2 or 3 microphones at the same time? Thanks.

you need an Audio Interface - basically this is an external sound card. they come with different amounts of channels, ie you could buy one with 6 analogue inputs and 10 outputs etc… usually they connect via USB 2.0 or Firewire, and a lot of them are bus powered, so you don’t have to plug it in for power. I use a MOTU ultralite, it has two XLR inputs with preamps and 9v phantom power necessary for condenser microphones. However the MOTU’s are quite pricey, have a search on Google and you will find some a lot cheaper.

i have a home studio. i got a $15 mic my friend bought me off e bay. works really good. head phones $10 and a sound system i just bought $100. to hook up several mics you have to have several mic plug ins. i only have 2. i use audacity to record my music and fl studio to make my instrumentals. record your instrument noise export it as a midi then import it to fl studio then you can digitally change your sound.

            i have a desktop

            hp pavilion.
