planning a wedding for my sister

free budget planner

So my sister & her fiance have set a wedding date for their wedding. It’s going to be August 2009 & she asked me & our aunt to be the wedding planners. Since we both love to plan events. We both want to do it for free as a wedding gift but she insists on paying us. She does not know where she wants it, what colors she wants or anything. We are pretty much starting from ground zero with this wedding. Their budget is $45,000 including the honeymoon she said they are a bit flexible with the budget but they don’t want it to be anymore then $50,000 if they absolutely have to. My sister is a optometrist & her soon to be hubby is a engineer so this budget works for them.

Where should me and my aunt start? We have ALOT of work to do & we want this day to be very special for my sister & her fiance.

For brides on a budget?

free budget planner

For brides on a tight budget who want a coordinator - Would you hire a professional event planner with 2 years experience, but no wedding experience, for an extremely discounted fee (either free or maximum 5% of the total cost) in exchange for a testimonial to improve their portfolio and client list? The planner just started their own business, and you would be one of their first clients on their own. They have proven knowledge of the wedding industry after an lengthly interview.

What do you say?
I should add that I would actually be using the planner’s “day of” coordinator services, which she wouldn’t charge me for (the 5% would be in she did the whole shebang). Even though I’m on a tight budget, and am an extremely organized person (I have everything planned to the minute), the last thing I want to be worried about on the day of my wedding is how fast the centerpieces are being assembled. There’s no question about hiring a coordinator at all, it’s just a matter of this particular one.
